THE NAME The Krewe of Oshun is an uptown New Orleans Mardi Gras parade founded in 1996. Oshun is the Ifa and Yoruba goddess of love, beauty, fertility, rivers, fresh water, luxury, and pleasure. Brought to the Americas during the African diaspora, Oshun is associated with mirrors, peacocks, fans, jewels, honey, and the colors yellow/gold, deep reds, corals, and pink.
